Location:

The Driftwood sauna is located in Spiddal Co. Galway at the famous pier where the final shooting scene was filmed in the Guard Movie. Here is the famous shootout

Size:

The sauna is rectangular in shape, rather than a barrel-shaped. It has a small changing area with hooks and shelves. It is big enough to comfortably fit two people changing. The sauna room was big enough to fit five average size men comfortably. I wondered if six of us would fit. The sauna is really modern and the cedar woodwork is finished to a very high standard.

Our experience:

We ( two of us) arrived on Friday night (7pm). We were warmly welcomed by Monique, who showed us around and explain everything. There is a cold plunge pool just outside to cool down if needed. There is a wood-burning stove in the corner, which generate awesome heat. The temperature stayed above 80 C, despite the door being opened a good few times. Drinking water was provided. There is a large window but we didn’t see anything as it was pitch black outside, however, this wasn’t an issue at all.
It was too far and too dark to get to the sea. In fact, the “being at the sea” thing didn’t matter at all. We were there with a group of another three lads who came together. We had great chats and laughs with them for the full-time being there. We really enjoyed their company and the sauna experience very much. The plunge pool and the bitter Connemara wind did the perfect job of cooling me down.
